Holy Monday: Blessing in Cusco “Señor de los Temblores” 2026. A tradition in the city of Cusco is receiving the blessing of the Lord of the Earthquakes on Holy Monday. Thousands of people of all nationalities gather in Cusco’s Plaza de Armas to receive this blessing. This tradition began in 1650 when the image of the Lord was carried in procession to calm a powerful earthquake, a custom that continues as a symbol of faith and protection.
Blessing in Cusco
Every year on Holy Monday, the image stops in front of the Cathedral and is raised to bless the city, an act believed to protect it from natural disasters. Throughout the procession, balconies are adorned with ñucchu flowers, and traditional songs in Quechua are sung.
The Señor de los Temblores usually takes place at different times during its procession through the main streets of Cusco. In 2026, the blessing will be on March 30th (Procession of the Señor de los Temblores).

2:00 PM – 1st Blessing: Cusco Cathedral Basilica.
6:00 PM – 2nd Blessing: San Francisco Square.
7:00 PM – 3rd Blessing: El Sol Avenue.
8:00 PM – Final Blessing: Cusco Cathedral Basilica.
