There are two options to get from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes:
• By train: This is the most recommended option, and the train trip takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. There are two railway companies, PeruRail and IncaRail. Both offer tourist trains to Aguas Calientes, and each company has different prices. You can find trains ranging from $75 to $550 per leg, depending on the train class. This option offers daily departures at various times. The first train leaves at 5:05 AM and the last at 9:00 PM, so you can choose the schedule that best suits you.
• By Car: To travel this route, you must arrange transportation from Ollantaytambo to the Machu Picchu Hydroelectric Plant. From there, you’ll walk along the train tracks for approximately 3 hours to reach Aguas Calientes. The drive from Ollantaytambo to the Hydroelectric Plant takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. This route is not recommended during the rainy season due to fog and unsafe road conditions.
