How to organize your trip to Machu Picchu on your own!

• The first thing you need to book is your ticket to Machu Picchu. You can choose from the different circuits available. The route that currently sells out quickly is Circuit 2 A and 2 B, as this ticket allows you to visit the Machu Picchu archaeological site. If you plan to tour the archaeological site, you must book in advance. You can purchase your ticket at tuboleto.cultura.pe and pay by credit or debit card.

• Next, choose your train. The train companies that offer train service are Incarail and Perurail. Both offer trains to Aguas Calientes. You can select the type of train you want, and each company has different options, so you can choose the one you prefer. Remember that there is a bimodal service, meaning bus + train, offered by the same train company. Otherwise, you will be told where to board your train if it is from San Pedro Station, Poroy Station, Urubamba Station, or Ollantaytambo Station.

• If your station is San Pedro, Poroy, or Ollantaytambo, you can request a private transfer from Cusco. We can help you with private transportation from Cusco to the train station, round trip, or if you only need a one-way ticket.

• Once in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town), you can board the bus that goes from the town to the Machu Picchu entrance gate. The price is $24 round trip. If you don’t want to take the bus, you can walk. The walk will take approximately 1.5 hours. The entire route is signposted, so you won’t get lost.

Machu Picchu Guide

• A guide in Machu Picchu is optional, but hiring a guide is recommended, as this will provide valuable information about Machu Picchu and will take you to the most important points. Guides in Machu Picchu are available for all tours, both shared and private. For the Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain routes, only private guides generally go, as the route is longer, and there are guides in different languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, etc.

Following all these recommendations will make your trip a great one. Always remember to book everything in advance.
